Other World Computing (OWC)
led the charge to support education and the challenged at-risk community in San Francisco in the annual MacBowl fundraiser administered in conjunction with the Macworld Conference & Expo.
Over $27,000 in cash and equipment was raised to benefit San Francisco’s Marshall Elementary School during the 2006 MacBowl, co-hosted by Macworld Magazine and Aspyr Media on January 12, 2006.
“Other World Computing is dedicated to ensuring a better tomorrow, not just through technological developments but equally through our commitment to bettering the community,” said CEO Larry O’Connor.
“We applaud Macworld Magazine and Aspyr Media, and are honored to continue to be able to be a part of strengthening the education system.”
Marshall Elementary School serves an at-risk community and was selected as the beneficiary of the fundraiser through the cooperation of San Francisco Unified School District Office. The school stresses a strong emphasis on science, math, and literacy.
Over the previous five years, San Francisco schools have received nearly $95,000 in financial support and high-end Macintosh computers, software, and peripherals from the annual MacBowl fundraiser.
Funds and equipment raised through the MacBowl event allow under-privileged and at-risk students to received training and access to the latest and best technologies
“Giving children access to the latest technologies that they would not otherwise be exposed to not only enriches their lives today, it opens up career opportunities for them in the future,” said O’Connor.
The 2006 MacBowl fundraiser took place at the Yerba Bowling Center, San Francisco, and featured participation and sponsorship by leading companies in the technology field.
