I recently bought a portable hard drive, 200 gig drive, just for my iTunes library, which makes it easy when I travel. I bought one of these Other World Computing On-The-Go drives, totally bus-powered, makes it really easy, I just plug it into the Mac. It will do USB 2, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800. I have the first gen MacBook Pro, FireWire 400 only. I get the drive, and it’s got USB 2, and two FireWire 800 ports … then I looked, in the box was a cable to connect FireWire 800 to FireWire 400 -- and of course it works just fine. I got the 200 gig model, plenty big for what I need right now.
