First, as with any update, please be sure to back up critical data before proceeding. We have extensively tested this update and you will very likely not lose data doing this update, but it is always prudent to be cautious.

This program will not run in the Mac OS X Classic Environment and you risk irreparable damage to your FireWire case if you attempt to flash the case using Classic mode.

If your drive mechanism is an IBM Travelstar, you may experience a drive disconnect when sleeping under Mac OS X. There are two possible fixes for this issue - one is to put a jumper on the SLAVE position on the hard disk drive. If this does not cure the disconnect on sleep issue, then we recommend using the AC power adapter as the drive does not lose power upon sleep and therefore does not dismount during sleep.

Start by booting your system into Mac OS 9.x and open the Extension Manager. Change your extension set to "Mac OS 9 All" and click on the restart button.

Once booted into OS 9.x, make certain the only FireWire device hooked up to your machine is the Oxford 911 based case that you wish to update. This is very important.

If your Firmware Revision says October 23, 2001 you do not need to update your firmware for general use in any of the OWC Mercury cases.

If your Firmware Revision is any other date, proceed with the next step.

Once you have the flash utility running, click on the Upload/Upgrade Firmware radio button.

Choose the "OWC_MERCURY_OTG" file and click open. The Firmware will automatically erase and overwrite the existing Firmware.

The Uploader utility will then return you to it's main screen. Click the Reset button on the top left and it will show the revision of the Firmware update. Your FireWire drive should have unmounted from the desktop and then automatically remounted. If the drive did not reappear on the desktop, restart your system.
