All SpeedTools utility components are Universal Binary and are compatible with MacOS X 10.2 through MacOS X 10.5.x

Components

SpeedTools Utilites Manager

At the heart of the SpeedTools Utilities suite is the SpeedTools Manager application. A scalable utility management system which provides a single, organized access point to launch SpeedTools components, view user guides and monitor updates.

The SpeedTools Manager application is flexible too. Its been designed to provide seamless integration with Intech's installer and update programs giving you the ability to add, remove and update individual utilities in the manager application on demand!

Disk Defrag

Intech's Disk Defrag utility is designed to speed up your Macintosh's access to files stored on your hard disks. To do this, the Disk Defrag utility identifies files on HFS+ (aka MacOS Extended) formatted drives which are stored in more than one place on your drive and rewrites those files so that they form one continuous data stream. This process can dramatically reduce the number of data reads and writes to access your files, thereby significantly speeding up file access related functions.

Because Disk Defrag does not modify low-level file structures on your volumes, it is fully compatible with the Journaling feature provided in MacOS 10.3 and later. Additionally, your data is safe even in the event of a System crash or unexpected power loss. Files can even be defragmented on your boot volume!

Integrity

The Integrity utility is an application which began life as an in-house testing program here at Intech. This simple to use utility quickly proved to be one of our most trusted disk drive testing tools. It creates a test file, writes a revolving data pattern to your disk and reads it back in, each time comparing the data pattern to the original. And, it does it all as fast as your disk and its interface can handle - showing no mercy to sporadic problems. You can think of Integrity as a "stress test" for your hard disk drive. Plus, Integrity is extremely safe since all of its tests are performed to a temporary test file, leaving your existing data completely untouched.

We've used this utility extensively over the last decade to diagnose problems with cables and connections, SCSI drive termination, ATA DMA timing settings and even monitor new Intech software products and drivers during their development. Because this test utility has been valuable in detecting even the smallest of problems, we are very excited to provide it as part of Intech's SpeedTools Test Suite and SpeedTools Utilities Suite for MacOS X -- for your added peace of mind!

Media Scanner

The SpeedTools Media Scanner utility has been designed to verify the reliability of your disk's media. If a defective sector is found, the utility automatically provides an opportunity for you to remove it with one click of a button. And starting with version 2.0, you can now locate and fix defective sectors within individual files!

QuickBack

When Intech set out to design our own backup software, our quest was clear: to do everything possible to create the the easiest backup software ever developed for the Macintosh without sacrificing many of the features found exclusively with high-end backup software packages. We think you'll agree: mission accomplished! Presenting QuickBack for MacOS X.

QuickBack can be used in two different ways. First, it can be used to make a copy of a single volume or groups of files and folders on a one-at-a-time basis. Additionally, QuickBack can be used to create and manage schedules for multiple numbers of automated backups

QuickBench

QuickBench is a simple to use but powerful hard disk performance benchmarking tool. It provides three built-in, industry trusted test suites which measure the performance of dozens of preset hard disk transfer sizes. Complementing QuickBench's built-in test suites is a configurable custom test option which allows you to design a disk test of virtually any size and duration according to your own personal requirements.

Get the results that you can count on! QuickBench tests your hard disks through the Macintosh file system. In other words, QuickBench measures performance in the same way that your applications actually store and retrieve data. Testing in this way ensures highly repeatable, stable, real-world results. Other benchmarking utilities (which test the drive directly) bypass all of your system's real-world influences. As a result, they tend to produce "synthetic" results which may have limited predictive value for your system.

Testing at the file system level has other benefits as well... QuickBench can benchmark just about any mounted writable volume and interface - including RAM disks, flash memory cards and Apple Share volumes! Further, QuickBench is extremely safe since all of its tests are performed by reading and writing to a temporary test file, leaving your existing data completely untouched.

We all know that collecting accurate benchmark results is important. However, understanding the results is equally as important. And again, QuickBench delivers. QuickBench provides multiple ways to view your measurements. Use QuickBench's graphical view to spot patterns and trends quickly, or switch to the numerical view to see details down to a thousandth of a megabyte per second.

After testing, QuickBench can save your test results as a file which can be viewed using any standard text editing software or as a Microsoft™ Excel™ compatible file designed specifically to make external chart creation a snap.

ZoneBench

The SpeedTools ZoneBench is a benchmarking application designed to measure the read and write speeds over an entire local storage device. That device can be either logical (such as a disk volume which is actually a RAID array made up of two or more disk drives) or physical (such as your internal ATA disk drive). ZoneBench also has the capability to measure the speed of read-only devices such as mounted CD and DVD data discs.

Device Tuner

DeviceTuner was initially created to solve the problems of a particular FireWire device’s ability to transfer data reliably over a FireWire bus. Being unable to copy files to or from a FireWire hard disk, for example, is a common symptom of a larger problem: less than optimal signal quality on the FireWire bus. This can be caused by a myriad of factors, but regardless of why it happens, DeviceTuner can likely help.

Important Note: Due to the dramatic improvements in FireWire hardware and firmware reliability over the last few years, Intech has decided that it is time to stop development of this product so that we can focus our efforts elsewhere. This product will still be provided in our installer software and can be used on PowerPC based Macintoshes running 10.2 through 10.4.6.

Have Mac OS 7.0 - 9.2.2? Don't worry, the Classic version of SpeedTools Utilities is included, too!
