To use this battery, you must have an iPod that is smaller than an iPod mini and has a color screen and a Click Wheel but has flash memory instead of a hard drive. Song and photo syncing only occurs over USB 2 (not FireWire). The iPod nano comes in white and black. The capacity of the iPod nano is engraved on the back of the case (1 GB, 2 GB, or 4 GB). iPod nano 1st Generation models use this battery.

Q: How do I tell what iPod I have?
A: If your iPod plugs in to charge via a cable at the TOP, you have a 1st or 2nd generation iPod. If your iPod plugs in via a DOCK CONNECTOR at the bottom and it's control buttons are above the scroll wheel, you have a 3rd generation iPod. If your iPod has a hard drive, uses USB for syncing, is either white, black or red and features a large, widescreen color display, a Click Wheel, and the capability of displaying photos and videos. then your iPod is a 5th Generation with Video. If your iPod is small in size, uses flash mamery, is black or white in color and the dock connector and headphones port are both located on the bottom of the unit, then you iPod is a 1st generation nano and this battery will work fine.
