Multi-Interface
The OWC Mercury Rack Pro RAID series offers (1) eSATA port with eSATA Port-Multiplier capability, (2) FireWire 800 (1394B) ports, (1) FireWire 400 (1394A) port, and (1) USB 3.0 port for easy Plug and Play on ANY system! The OWC Mercury Rack Pro RAID even includes all needed connection cables!
Swap Drives at Will
When using the OWC Mercury Rack Pro in Independent mode*, all four drives appear on your system as individual volumes drives, so you can mix and match drives of any size and brand and hot swap** the drives too.
Smart Power
Smart Power regulates power during prolonged periods of inactivity to save operating costs and prolong component lifespan.
Flexible Form
The OWC Mercury Rack Pro can easily be converted to a desktop form-factor via a Phillips screwdriver by simply removing the rack ears and installing the included anti-skid, vibration dampening feet.

*When using in independent mode via eSATA, you must use an eSATA Port Multiplier capable card.

**When using in Independent Mode and wanting to switch out one or more drives, ALL drives must be ejected (unmounted) from the Desktop to avoid data corruption.

The power of simplicity is evident in the OWC RAID Manager. With easy to follow options and menus, this convenient user interface adds a level of control and monitoring for unrivaled operating confidence.

*While the functionality of the user interface is nearly complete, the overall look and feel as well as basic environment settings (dock and menu bar item) are still being finalized. As such, this product is in a BETA level of support and therefore no guarantee of system stability, data integrity, etc. is offered. Two modes, Basic and Advanced, let you tailor the setting to best
suit your technical proficiency and particular needs.

Under the Basic Mode, you can:
  • View and monitor each drive's specific information including its serial number, model name, and capacity.
  • Create, and delete RAID arrays and monitor them visually and/or with audible alerts.
  • View drive S.M.A.R.T. status to determine future reliability.
  • Password protect your RAID array to prevent unauthorized access and modification of the array.
The Advanced Mode adds these features to the Basic set:
  • Create multiple RAID sets among the four drives
    • Eg. Select RAID 1 for two drives and RAID 0 for the other two drives.
    • RAID Choices: 0,1,3,5,10, Clone (an enhanced RAID 1), and Large (JBOD)
  • Selectable standby/sleep time for the Rack Pro
    • Select no standby or up to 10922 minutes for the Rack Pro to enter standby mode.
  • Program email notifications for drive failures, rebuild notifications, and other drive related events.

A 'recommended' drive is one that, through our extensive and ongoing evaluation process, we've found to have optimum operational characteristics required for demanding RAID applications.

Note: OWC is always testing new drive models and adds additional models as they become available and have passed our stringent requirements. If you do not see a new drive model listed, please check back in the future for confirmed OWC Mercury Rack Pro Qualification.

Note: Regardless of drive model used, OWC requires that all drives used match exactly for proper RAID operation.

**NOT RECOMMENDED**
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 series - all models, particularly the 1.5TB 7200RPM model p/n ST31500341AS due to stability and performance concerns.
  • Western Digital Green drives - all models, due to potential critical operational issues attributed to the IntelliPower technology providing inconsistent variable transfer rates.
