Simple Installation

Apple designed your Power Mac to be easily upgradeable. A processor upgrade installation happens in minutes—simply replace your Power Mac's current processor with a faster 500 MHz or 1.0 GHz Encore/ZIF upgrade. ⁽²⁾ The included documentation details the process step by step. The Encore hardware automatically configures the correct bus ratio without the need for switches. In no time you're Power Mac will be up and running—simply fast.

Technical Notes:

1. Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) users must disconnect any installed SCSI adapter cards and SCSI drive(s) from their computer before running the Sonnet Software installer and installing the Encore/ZIF G4. After disconnecting the SCSI card and drive(s), the computer must be booted from a hard drive connected to the internal ATA bus, and then the Sonnet installer (which installs files necessary to support Encore/ZIF G4) must be run. The SCSI card and drive(s) may be reconnected after the software installer has been run.
2. Encore/ZIF G4 1.0 GHz upgrade requires the installation of a supplied firmware patch; you must boot your computer in Mac OS 9.2 (installed on a local hard drive) in order to run the firmware updater application.
3. Mac OS X 10.3.x supported on beige G3 Power Macs when used with appropriate third-party software. Please refer to software developer's website for complete compatibility and specification details.
