Any issues when upgrading 9600 800mhz sonnet? - can this replace the 9600 video card? - any one running a LCD panel display using the 9600? Any issues? Recommendations for 18" or larger DVI displays? - with the Apple DVI adapter it looks like a 20" or 23" Apple Cinema Display would work. Any issues? Has anyone done this? |

Never tried the older card, but my 7000 is driving a 17" Trinitron off the DVI. I am pleased with that card, I did use PCI Extreme to enable Quartz Extreme in OSX, and despite the fact that I get some artifacts when video first comes up, they go away when the video plays and I have noticed MAJOR speed and smootness improvements with the dock, window minimizations, screen effects, etc. |

You can eliminate the black screen at startup by using the advanced menu in XPF from OS9 when choosing your OSX startup disk, and pointing the output option to the Radeon... Marty |

Actually, the original Radeon is still a better 3D card. The 7000 is missing the the Charisma processor chip that the original Radeon has. At higher resolutions the 7000 is not able to maintain the framerates that the original can. My orignal Radeon is driving a Dell 171FP 17" LCD from the DVI port quite nicely. I have a Power Tower Pro with Sonnet G4/800 and OS 10.2.6. When the computer boots the monitor lights up then goes dark and a few seconds later comes back on with the gray apple boot screen. |

there was a firmware update in January i think for the 7000 that changed that, the 7000 is now just a touch better. And it is still supported by ATI. I wish they would put out some new PCI video cards, so that it would be easier to flash the PC versions ;) Mac versions are crazy expencive for what they are. |

Actually, the original Radeon was listed as the 7200. the Radeon 7000 is a slightly slower version, so if you already have an original Radeon, keep it, you wont find a better PCI video card. |

Was the card 400 or was your monitor 400? anyway, i have an original Radeon and a 19" viewSonic VG191 and it works great, it is running off of the DVI port, works great. I would assume that the 7000 only improved on the original Radeon. |

8600 with 700mhz Sonnett, ATI Radeon 7000 running a Microtek 18" LCD panel with no issues except dark screen until OSX 10.2 loads. I'm not brave enough to write a new output in terminal. The monitor is a SVGA, but I think the card has specs to support the cinema. Mine was just $399 at Walmart, so the money talks on this one. I ran 2 15" flat panels on this card also. |
