I am currently running a linksys wireless b router using a verizon dsl internet service provider. I have a beige g3 hard wired to the router. In another room I have a powermac 8500 running a cresendo g3 processor without a hitch. I bought the router to support a third computer, which is a toshiba pc laptop running windows xp professional and a linksys wifi card. Minus the 8500, the system works without a flaw. Question: is there a wireless card that will allow me to connect the 8500 to the linksys router(for instance the linksys wireless b pci card, or better yet a cheaper version). Or am I limited by apple's airport system. Current research is unclear. Thanks for the help. |

Boot either in safe boot or single user Boot safe by restarting with the shift key held down until you see safe boot screen I believe it may only work in 10.2. If I understand correctly it runs the same repair program as below but not sure how long. after it finishes it's boot up in safe boot, restart computer normally. Single user hold down (after the start chime) the Command (apple) and "s" keys until the Unix text starts to display when it stops type"fsck -y" be sure to space between k and -. if when it stops it says something about the disk being modified press the up arrow and press enter it will run again run it until it no longer sees any problems or it repeats the same repairs a couple of times. when finished either type "reboot " or "exit" and after either run permission repair. New forum is up: http://anybox.owc.net/forum/ see you ther soon Jim |

hey camperslo, I took your advice and bought the belkin usb from dealmac. While the sale went fine, I recently downloaded the os 10.2 driver from the belkin site, and my computer frezes at startup, shortly after it finishes loading the desktop. an error window opens telling me that I need to reset the computer in about 4 different languages, and I have to shut down via the power button or by pulling the plug. Have you any suggestions for getting around this problem, i'm afraid that the os is done. |

The best solution is a dlink dwl-810 or the linksys gaming solution. They hook to your enet port and configure through a browser. As an added benifit, you can plug it into a hub and share the wireless connection with multiple computers in the same room. |

I wouldn't buy a USB model personally... I would get an ethernet connection point.... Either way though... It should work. I like Ethernet, because you don't need any special software that way. Marty |

Do a search for Belkin USB on DealMac.com, and you'll find a refurbished 802.11b adaptor that works via (and is powered by) USB. The drivers are available from the Belkin site, for both OS 9 and OS X. Although there were postings on the dealmac site about needing extension loading order changed, I found it works fine if you plug it into the USB port after booting up. Plug it in, then open their control panel. I set PS Mode to enabled, hit scan under Site Survey, and I was connected. For the TCP/IP settings Control Panel go to configurations and make a new one (I duplicated one and renamed it). Then I selected the new ethernet port showing, and DHCP. (set to active, uncheck koad only when needed under options) Running it as I type this. Great deal at $22.50 plus shipping. I suspect that the plug in after booting issue is due to my particular USB/Firewire card since my webcam has the same problem but didn't when I had a USB-only card. |

In OS X you can use SOME pci-wifi cards in an 8500,if you need wifi in OS 9 go for an ethernet to wifi adapter. OWC sells some PCI wifi cards that will work in OS X, I don't know of any that will work in 9. |
