If you have an iMac5,2 with 3GB of RAM installed and you notice the LED on the machine flashes when you attempt to start up, most likely the problem is the amount of RAM you have installed. This specific iMac was originally sold as an educational model with a logic board that does not support more than 2GB of RAM. Therefore the solution is to make sure not more than 2GB of RAM is installed; this should return normal operation.

This video can assist you in removing or installing RAM modules for this generation of iMac.
