Kernel panics have sometimes been reported by MacBook and MacBook Pro owners who installed Western Digital Scorpio hard drives. This problem is caused by a conflict between Apple's Sudden Motion Sensor or SMS, and the built-in motion sensing technology on the Scorpio hard drives. One possible solution is to disable the SMS in the Mac, allowing the motion sensing to be done by the hard drive.
The Apple article below provides instructions for disabling the SMS via the Terminal application, should you decide to attempt this solution.
