Kernel panics have sometimes been reported by MacBook and MacBook Pro owners who installed Western Digital Scorpio hard drives. This problem is caused by a conflict between Apple's Sudden Motion Sensor or SMS, and the built-in motion sensing technology on the Scorpio hard drives. One possible solution is to disable the SMS in the Mac, allowing the motion sensing to be done by the hard drive.
