Just two days after they were released, the 2011 iMacs have a firmware update.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/DL1380\">iMac EFI Update 1.6<\/a> is described as including \u201cfixes that improve performance and stability for Thunderbolt,\u201d it would also seem that an unadvertised benefit is that it also unlocks the full 6Gb\/s, SATA 3.0 capabilities of two of the internal drive bays.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the optical bay remains at 3Gb\/s.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll be doing some testing and posting some numbers to show the speed differences, and posting them as soon as we get them, so hang tight.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and for what it\u2019s worth, it appears there\u2019s&nbsp;also&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/DL1381\">an update for the 2011 MacBook Pros<\/a>, which includes \u201cfixes that resolve an issue with Turbo Mode in Boot Camp, and improve performance and stability for graphics and Thunderbolt.\u201d No word on if it addresses any issues with 6Gb\/s SATA in the main hard drive bays of the 17\u201d model.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well&#8230; that was quick!
