{"id":10336,"date":"2011-05-20T16:08:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-20T21:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/?p=10336"},"modified":"2014-05-22T13:33:49","modified_gmt":"2014-05-22T18:33:49","slug":"shhhh-secret-apple-store-roll-out-on-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/10336-shhhh-secret-apple-store-roll-out-on-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"SHHHH! \u201cSecret\u201d Apple Store Roll-Out on Sunday."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-9000\" title=\"apple-rumors\" src=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/apple-rumors.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"206\" \/>Just a few days after the 10th Anniversary of Apple\u2019s first retail store, our favorite Cupertino-based, fruit-themed computer company seems to be planning <em>something.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to several rumors sites, there have been a number of \u201csuspicious\u201d activities from the Apple camp:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Overnight shifts for Saturday night have been assigned\u2014<em>and they require a cell-phone lockout and an NDA!<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Mysterious packages of equipment arriving at the retail stores.<\/li>\n<li>Large amounts (in the GB range) of password-protected data labeled \u201ctraining\u201d have been downloaded from Apple corporate.<\/li>\n<li>Mandatory staff meetings at all Apple Stores on Sunday, mostly in the AM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As it always is within the Apple ecosystem, whenever Cupertino makes some \u201csecretive\u201d moves, the conspiracies start flying. This instance is no exception; the theories being bandied about include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>iPad-based POS System <\/strong>&#8211; This is entirely possible. Apple recently updated to using iPhones\/iPod Touches for the stores&#8217; sales floor. An iPad could make for an interesting approach &#8211; using larger images for products, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cSetup Stations\u201d Replacing the Genius Bar <\/strong>&#8211; As we mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/9735-owc-radio-54-the-3-word-episode\">OWC Radio #54<\/a>, Apple has been moving more towards a focus on \u201cpersonalized setup.\u201d The equipment that\u2019s arrived could be stations where Apple staffers can help a new user get things set up and ready to use, rather than at the Genius Bar itself.<\/li>\n<li><strong>iCloud <\/strong>&#8211; We all know Apple has that gigantic data center in North Carolina, and there have been rumblings about this service for a while now. Plus, there was a significant \u201cburp\u201d in service to an extremely large number of MobileMe subscribers earlier this week. Perhaps somebody threw a switch, and these were the people who had slipped through the net.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Early Release of OS X 10.7. Lion <\/strong>&#8211; It\u2019s possible Lion is just about done, and the level of secrecy around this whole thing is about right for a surprise OS release. However, with WWDC coming in just a couple of weeks, it would be a bit of a raspberry to developers hoping for a final SDK at the conference.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what\u2019s do <em>you <\/em>think is hiding in those boxes behind the hose black curtains?
