{"id":1401,"date":"2009-07-01T17:50:59","date_gmt":"2009-07-01T22:50:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/?p=1401"},"modified":"2014-05-22T13:40:56","modified_gmt":"2014-05-22T18:40:56","slug":"the-voyager-q-still-on-top","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/1401-the-voyager-q-still-on-top\/","title":{"rendered":"The Voyager Q &#8211; Still on Top."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1402\" src=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/voyagerthehero.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"525\" \/>Six months after winning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macitynet.it\" target=\"_blank\">Macitynet.it<\/a>\u2019s \u201cBest of Expo\u201d at the 2009 Macworld Expo, the <strong>Newer Technology Voyager Q<\/strong> continues racking up the accolades, garnering high marks from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.macworld.co.uk\/business\/reviews\/index.cfm?reviewid=3187&amp;pn=1\" target=\"_blank\">Macworld UK<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.electronista.com\/reviews\/voyager-q-hard-drive-dock.html\" target=\"_blank\">Electronista<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.t4show.com\/?p=4640\" target=\"_blank\">T4 Show<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newertech.com\/Static\/pdf\/macformatvoyagersummer09.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">MacFormat<\/a>, among <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newertech.com\/products\/voyagerq_awards.html\" target=\"_blank\">others<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The latest in the Voyager Q love-fest comes from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.testfreaks.com\/blog\/review\/newertech-voyager-q-firewire-usb-esata-sata-hard-drive-docking-solution\/\" target=\"_blank\">TestFreaks<\/a>. Despite them coming from a decidedly PC focus, the Voyager Q\u2019s qualities still shone through, firmly beating out their \u201ccontrol\u201d drive dock in both speed and available features.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, their <em>only<\/em> major quibble with the Voyager Q was the \u201chigh price\u201d of the unit, comparing it to units with only SATA and USB connectivity because the reviewer \u201cdoesn\u2019t use FireWire at all.\u201d That\u2019s kind of like saying a new HD Television set is too expensive because you only use it to watch old episodes of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barney_Miller\" target=\"_blank\">Barney Miller<\/a> on VHS.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that a chipset supporting eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 runs about $45-50 more than one that just supports eSATA and USB 2.0. This difference can be seen not only with the Voyager, but with just about any pair of identical enclosures\/interfaces with the only difference being an eSATA\/USB or a \u201cQuad\u201d interface.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically enough, the <strong>Voyager S2<\/strong> is <em>also<\/em> available. This model is just like the Voyager Q, except it just has eSATA and USB 2.0 support, but is also about $45 less than the Q. Those features that would have made it perfect for this review.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/shop\/NewerTech\/Voyager\/Hard_Drive_Dock\" target=\"_blank\">Whichever model you look at<\/a>, though, the Voyager docks are high-quality units. Unfortunately, \u201cprice\u201d and \u201cvalue\u201d mean the same thing in people\u2019s minds all too often. The Voyager Q may not be the least expensive drive dock out there, but few (if any) of those other docks come with the \u201cextras\u201d that the Voyager comes with. Things like having all the connector cables included, knowing there\u2019s a solid warranty in case something goes wrong, and unparalleled support also come into play.
