This event was originally created by members of the Crystal Lake Yacht Club\u00a0to provide people with a fun day and to enjoy Crystal Lake.\u00a0Every year the Regatta hosts more than 180 cardboard boats and over 5,000\u00a0spectators.\u00a0Over the years, this event has grown and is now considered by people worldwide as the\u00a0championship of Cardboard boat racing.\u00a0Participants have come from all over the\u00a0Chicago region and as far away as Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>Best of all, the proceeds from America&#8217;s Cardboard Cup Regatta benefit a wide variety of\u00a0local charities.<\/p>\n<p>This year for the event&#8217;s 25th Anniversary, the Other World Computing team of businesses <a title=\"OWC.net Internet Services\" href=\"http:\/\/www.owc.net\" target=\"_self\">OWC.net<\/a>, <a title=\"Two Tails Market &amp; Eatery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.twotailsmarket.com\" target=\"_self\">Two Tails Market &amp; Eatery<\/a> and <a title=\"Java Planet Coffee &amp; Wireless Cafe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.javaplanetcoffee.com\" target=\"_self\">Java Planet<\/a> entered a joint effort vessel for the third straight year. Our crew and support staff are to be commended for their professionalism in representing OWC, Two Tails, and Java Planet with a high level of enthusiasm and involvement with the event. It was great to see so many OWC, Two Tails, and Java Planet team-members come out to support what was really fun and exciting day at the races.&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;\"><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><strong>To top it all off, we took home two trophies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;\">2nd place Most Enthusiastic Crew<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;\">3rd Place overall in the race itself<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>The S.S. Eileen, complete\u00a0with rigging, sails, a crow\u2019s nest, and our own mascot in the crow\u2019s nest (a stuffed monkey the crew \u201cappropriated\u201d from our accounting department); was certainly the largest vessel entered in the event.\u00a0The 20 foot boat was so tall it was brushing tree tops and phone wires as it was proceeded in a slow parade, down back roads to the event. Upon its maiden entry to the water, the boat was christened with a bottle of Diet Coke.<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1468\" title=\"cbcup2009rowing\" src=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/cbcup2009rowing.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"164\" \/><\/div>\n<div>For the first race, Star 105.5, the local radio station covering the event, played Dexy&#8217;s Midnight Runners&#8217; \u201cCome on Eileen\u201d in homage to the name of the boat.\u00a0Other notable entries were the VW Bus from Scooby Doo and a 20-foot long flying wedge guitar-shaped boat, complete with two crew members fully outfitted as band members from KISS.<\/div>\n<div>Our boat was so well built it survived the whole day intact.
