\"GreenRainbow\"We\u2019ve talked a lot about Other World Computing\u2019s major environmental initiatives here on the OWC Blog.<\/p>\n

We have told you about our LEED certified corporate headquarters<\/a> in Woodstock, Ill. We\u2019ve also given you a look at our on-site Vestas V39-500 kW wind turbine<\/a> (our NuGuard KX case got an even closer look at the turbine<\/a>). And our more recent efforts include installing a solar panel array<\/a> on the roof of our Austin facility.<\/p>\n

These are all pretty big steps in our efforts to be as environmentally responsible and green as possible.<\/p>\n

But not all steps need to be big to make a difference. In fact, some smaller steps can sometimes fall under the radar. And on this Earth Day<\/a> we thought we would highlight one of our \u201csmaller\u201d steps.<\/p>\n

OWC Margaret recently took the initiative to start a \u201csnack garden\u201d planted in raised beds on the perimeter of the patio to make OWC\u2019s already green campus a little bit more so. And Margaret expects the small garden\u2019s containers to provide healthy snacks for OWC\u2019s all-purpose room until winter arrives.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will plant and hope for a bountiful harvest of cool weather crops of gourmet blend lettuce, spinach, radishes and EZ serve lettuce. These will be followed by green beans, lemon and green cucumbers, salsa and cherry size tomatoes, and hot to mild peppers,\u201d<\/i> Margaret said. \u201cOnce these are nearly done for the summer we will plant the remaining seeds from the early spring crops for the fall, starting in the shade of the summer crops.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Margaret said she hopes that if the OWC snack garden is successful, it can be expanded for even more produce.<\/p>\n
