\"Print\"Through our Women in Tech series<\/a> on the OWC Blog, we\u2019ve discussed the lack of diversity in technology industry with women comprising 51 percent of the workforce, yet only 26 percent of tech professionals.<\/p>\n

In some of our own reading this week, we\u2019ve come across some articles offering insight into the challenges women face and what some are doing to help overcome them:<\/p>\n

Making a big investment<\/strong>
\nGoogle announced Thursday<\/a> that it will make a major investment in a new program called Made with Code<\/a> along with a $50 million in funding \u201cto support programs that can help get more females into computer science\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

By the numbers<\/strong>
\nIn March, TechCrunch highlighted a study that showed that \u201cboth men and women are twice as likely to hire a man for a math-based job.\u201d Check out the article<\/a> for more information and a link to the full study.<\/p>\n

Inventor of Kevlar dies at 90<\/strong>
\nIn a sadder bit of news, Stephanie Kwolek \u2013 a pioneering female chemist at DuPont \u2013 passed away Friday<\/a>. Kwolek invented the durable fibers widely used in Kevlar body armor in the 1960s, and spent time throughout her life encouraging women to enter scientific fields.<\/p>\n
