Internet calling pioneer Skype has always required a standalone app of some sort in order to make audio or video phone calls from your laptop or desktop computer. Those days will soon be behind us, as Skype has opened the Skype for Web beta to users in the US and UK, meaning that anyone in those countries with a Mac or PC running a current browser can give the Web application a try.<\/p>\n

Setup is simple, and this is perfect for anyone who uses Skype on an infrequent basis. Pointing a browser to web.skype.com<\/a> begins the process, after which the user is asked to log into Skype using his or her previously acquired account credentials. The only piece of software that needs to be installed is a browser plugin, available for Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox.<\/p>\n

The beta program began in March of 2015 to a limited number of Skype users. The Web app is fully-functional, providing Skype users with messaging, audio calls, and video calls without the need to download a separate standalone application.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
