First, you\u2019ll need an Intel-based <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/shop\/Apple_Systems\/Used\/Macs_and_Tablets\">Mac<\/a> with at least 30GB of free space on the startup drive, and a Windows installation media or disk image (ISO) containing a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 8 or later (<strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0Your Mac may support <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT204048\">older versions of Windows<\/a>. And be sure to use a full installation disk rather than an upgrade disk if installing Windows for the first time.) If it\u2019s not, then run Software Update. You\u2019ll also want to check for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/support\/bootcamp\/\">Boot Camp updates from Apple<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.)<\/strong> Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT204048\">Apple\u2019s handy chart<\/a> to see the system requirements to be able to install specific versions of Windows. You may need more <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/shop\/internal_storage\/hard_drives_and_SSD\">hard drive space<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/shop\/apple\/memory\/\">memory<\/a> depending on the version of Windows you are installing. You will want to protect yourself from any unforeseen issues during this process with a <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/29785-backup-month-a-look-at-time-machine-carbon-copy-cloner-superduper\">backup of all of your important data<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.)<\/strong> If you bought Windows on a DVD or flash drive,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/TS5373\">you\u2019ll need to create a disk image<\/a>\u00a0of it to work with Boot Camp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.)<\/strong> Open Boot Camp Assistant (which will walk you through installation) from the Utilities folder in the Applications folder and follow the onscreen instructions to automatically repartition your startup disk and download related software drivers for Windows. You will then be prompted to connect your <a href=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/search\/USB+dual+flash\">USB flash drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.)<\/strong> When you complete the Boot Camp Assistant, your Mac restarts to the Windows installer. When you&#8217;re asked where you want to install Windows, select the BOOTCAMP partition and click <a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT204009\">Format<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.) <\/strong>You\u2019ll then finish your Windows installation by following the on-screen commands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.)<\/strong> Finally, you will restart your computer. You can switch between OS X and Windows after Windows is installed. The <a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/PH13750\">Startup Disk preference pane<\/a> in OS X or the <a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/PH11132\">Boot Camp system tray<\/a> item in Windows can be used to select your startup disk from this point on. You can choose either OS to boot by default.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s it!
