Yep, that\u2019s just what it sounds like. As OWC\u2019s contingent braves the elements<\/a> on the flight out to San Francisco for Macworld Expo 2010<\/a>, Lloyd Chambers (diglloyd)<\/strong> of the Macintosh Performance Guide<\/a> has posted his review of the new OWC Mercury Extreme<\/a> solid state drive, and his review was positively glowing<\/em> with praise for OWC\u2019s latest offering.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s just a sample of some of the great things he had to say:<\/p>\n

\u201cAs of February 2010, no other solid state drive (SSD) I\u2019ve used comes close to the astonishing speed and robust performance I\u2019m seeing with OWC\u2019s enterprise-class RAID-ready Mercury Extreme SSD offering.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWrite speeds that show no degradation <\/strong>in my initial \u201cseasoning\u201d and moderate abuse, whereas other brands show drops of 15-20% after a single DiskTester fill-volume.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSustained write speeds of 260MB\/sec<\/strong> and read speeds of 270MB\/sec<\/strong> with no sign of degradation. That\u2019s nearly as fast as the 3Gb SATA 2.x interface allows!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPhotoshop scratch volume performance in a 2-drive RAID setup that is the fastest I\u2019ve yet observed, blowing away my previous champion, 4 X 2TB RAID-0 hard drives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOther vendors will have to release updated offerings, relying on sales inertia in the interim, because from what I\u2019m seeing, there is no-way-no-how I\u2019d consider the existing other-brand SSDs out there over the OWC Mercury Extreme SSD.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
