\"\"Recently, TweakTown<\/a> author Tyler Bernath made the switch from a late 2013 MacBook Pro to the more upgradable 2017 iMac with Retina 4k display. He moved to the system for the Thunderbolt 3 ports, but also for said upgradability.<\/p>\n

To make the DIY upgrades, Bernath turned to OWC<\/a> for its kits that installing a new higher capacity SSD<\/a> as well as more performance boosting memory<\/a>. The kit also included everything needed to make the upgrades to the iMac including adhesive, suction cups and a display removal tool.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m closing in on two months since I went through the steps of upgrading this iMac. The biggest performance gain has definitely come from the SSD … Is it worth it? Apple charges a nice $700 USD to go from the base HDD to a 1TB SSD, OWC charges $329 for the upgrade kit, you save roughly $350,\u201d<\/i> Bernath said.<\/p>\n
