Digitally signing a PDF in macOS is far more convenient. And saves trees. Yay!<\/p>\n<h3>So&#8230; here&#8217;s how to sign a PDF<\/h3>\n<p>Open the PDF you need to sign with Preview (located in your Applications folder). Show the Markup Toolbar by clicking the pen icon near the top right-hand corner by the search bar:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-50046\" src=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Markup-Icon.png\" alt=\"Markup Toolbar\" width=\"350\" height=\"30\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Markup-Icon.png 397w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Markup-Icon-284x24.png 284w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Markup-Icon-190x16.png 190w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Markup-Icon-380x34.png 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can also select &#8220;View &gt; Show Markup Toolbar,&#8221; or use the keyboard shortcut <span style=\"white-space: nowrap;\"><kbd class=\"keys\">\u21e7 Shift<\/kbd> + <kbd class=\"keys\">\u2318 Command<\/kbd> + <kbd class=\"keys\">A<\/kbd><\/span> &nbsp;to&#8230; well&#8230; show the Markup Toolbar.<\/p>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t yet created a digital signature, follow these steps&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\">\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">Select &#8220;Tools &gt; Annotate &gt; Signature &gt; Manage Signatures,&#8221; or click on the icon that looks like a squiggly &#8220;Jn.&#8221; Although it might actually be &#8220;Jim.&#8221; It&#8217;s kinda hard to tell, so we will have to live with that mystery for now.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-50048 alignnone\" style=\"border: 1px solid #000;\" src=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera.jpg\" alt=\"Preview Camera\" width=\"500\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera.jpg 639w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera-170x120.jpg 170w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera-284x200.jpg 284w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera-190x134.jpg 190w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera-170x120@2x.jpg 340w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera-284x200@2x.jpg 568w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Preview-Camera-190x134@2x.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">Select &#8220;Camera&#8221; from the signature pop-up menu.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">Sign your name on a white sheet of paper and hold it up to the camera. Once your Mac has noticed that your signature has become aligned with the horizontal line, it will scan and save your signature on a transparent background. Alternatively, if the Mac you are using is equipped with a Trackpad, you can choose this option instead and sign your name directly on the Trackpad with just a finger. Preferably your own.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">Click &#8220;Done&#8221; and your signature will be available to use in any PDF you open with Preview. Simply follow the above steps to open the Signature Pane and select your signature. It will plop onto your document and you can move it to where you&#8217;d like.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"byline\">Note: You may save as many signatures as you desire.
