For example, I have Dropbox and CleanMyMac open whenever I reboot or restart my iMac. You can set your own items to automatically open by following these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to Users &amp; Groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlight your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click &#8220;Login Items.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the lock icon<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"18\" class=\"wp-image-50865\" src=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/macOS-lock-icon.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width: 16px;\"\/>to enable you to make changes to your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50861\" width=\"600\" height=\"434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane.jpg 636w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane-166x120.jpg 166w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane-284x205.jpg 284w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane-190x137.jpg 190w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane-166x120@2x.jpg 332w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane-284x205@2x.jpg 568w, https:\/\/eshop.macsales.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/login-items-preference-pane-190x137@2x.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Click the \u201c+\u201d sign and you can choose an app, file server or pretty much anything else that should open when you log in.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve added something, you can use the checkboxes to opt to hide it, though it will still be running in the background.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can prevent items from opening automatically when you log in if you wish. To do so:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you see the login window, press the Shift key while you click the &#8220;<g class=\"gr_ gr_3 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace\" id=\"3\" data-gr-id=\"3\">Log In<\/g> button, then release the Shift key when you see the Dock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t see the login window, restart your Mac, hold down the Shift key when you see the progress bar in the startup window, then release the Shift key after the desktop appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will only temporarily disable the automatic log in of your selected items. On your next \u201cregular\u201d login, they\u2019ll open automatically again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Set Default Apps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Along the same lines, there are default apps that open certain types of files in macOS Mojave. However, you can change this.
