However, some of these security measures can be irritating unless you know what\u2019s going on behind the scenes. For instance, macOS really doesn\u2019t want you to run apps that weren\u2019t purchased from the Mac App Store.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before macOS Sierra, you could allow apps to be downloaded from the Mac App Store, identified developers, and \u201canywhere.\u201d The latter option vanished in Sierra, which was introduced in 2016. However, you can still open just about any app via one of two methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method One<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After you download an app and move it to your Applications folder, right-click on it and select Open. To <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">right click<\/g>, press and hold the Control (Ctrl) key while you click the mouse button. If you do, click Open; if not, click Cancel. If you do open it, macOS dds the developer to its internal list of identified developers so you can open other apps from the same developer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Method T<g class=\"gr_ gr_34 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"34\" data-gr-id=\"34\">wo<\/g><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Download the app and move it to your Applications folder. Launch the app, and you\u2019ll get the same warning. However, you\u2019ll only be presented with a blue \u201cOK\u201d button. Click it and you\u2019re taken to the Finder. Go to System Preferences &gt; Security &amp; Privacy icon (pictured) &gt; General. In the General tab, choose the \u201cOpen Anyway\u201d option.
