You can jump directly to a specific folder or file in macOS if you wish. And it\u2019s a fine time-saving feature. In the Finder, click the Go<\/strong> menu in the menu bar, then choose one of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Enclosing Folder <\/strong>(\u2318\u2191): Choose this option to open the parent folder for the current window. Choose a folder from the list.

    <\/li>
  • Recent Folders<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318F): Choose a folder from the submenu. (The submenu shows up to 10 recently opened folders.)

    <\/li>
  • Desktop<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318D): Choose folders on your, well, Desktop.

    <\/li>
  • Downloads<\/strong> (\u2325\u2318L): Choose folders from your Downloads file.

    <\/li>
  • Home<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318H): Choose folders from your Home folder (which includes folders for Applications, Pictures, Music, Movies, and more).

    <\/li>
  • Computer<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318C): Choose folders from your Mac\u2019s drive, attached drives, or from a network to which you\u2019re connected. The latter is also available from the Networks option under the Go menu.

  • AirDrop<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318R): This option opens an AirDrop window, so you can wirelessly send documents, photos, videos, websites, map locations, and more to a nearby Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

  • iCloud Drive<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318I): Choose folders stored on your iCloud Drive.

    <\/li>
  • Applications<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318A): Click on and open any app in your Applications folder.

    <\/li>
  • Utilities<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318U): Click on and open any tool in your Utilities folder.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    You can also go to a folder by entering its pathname. From the Finder, choose “Go > Go to Folder.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Go to Folder<\/strong> (\u21e7\u2318G): Type the folder\u2019s pathname (for example, \/Library\/Fonts\/ or ~\/Pictures\/), then click Go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    A slash (\/)<\/strong> at the beginning of a pathname indicates that the starting point is the top level of your computer\u2019s folder structure. A slash at the end indicates that this is a path to a folder, rather than a file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A tilde (~)<\/strong> indicates your home folder. Most of your personal folders, such as Documents, Music, and Pictures, are in your home folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you\u2019re having trouble finding a folder, make sure you\u2019re spelling its name correctly and typing the full path, including slashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You can also ask Siri<\/strong> to, for instance, \u201cOpen the home folder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These instructions apply, for the most part, to other versions of macOS besides Catalina. However, I\u2019m using Catalina on a 16-inch MacBook Pro for this tutorial.
