Do you find yourself typing the same ol\u2019 replies when using Mail in macOS? Not necessary, my friend. You can set up macOS Mail to respond automatically to incoming messages with a text you have pre-composed. It works well for an Out-of-Office Vacation message, but with Mac Mail’s extensive set of rules, you can auto-reply to just about anything, with<\/em> anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s how to set up an auto-response message in Mail:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Click to add a new rule in Mail Preferences<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
  1. Launch Mail on your Mac, then open Mail > Preferences<\/em>.<\/li>
  2. In the Preferences pane, click Rules<\/em>, then select Add Rule<\/em>.<\/li>
  3. The following box will pop up:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Provide description, criteria, and actions for the new rule.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Description:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    • Enter a Description for the new rule, such as \u201cGone to run<\/strong>\u201d in the first line.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      If [any\/all] of the following conditions are met:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      • A series of drop-down options will appear. Select “any<\/strong>” of the following conditions that are to be met in the second line.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        [From]<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        • In the third line, select an option in the drop-down list. You can choose from a variety of options such as the person whom the message is \u201cFrom<\/strong>\u201d to \u201cEvery Message<\/strong>.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          [Contains]<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n
          • In the fourth line, select from options:
            • contains<\/li>
            • does not contain<\/li>
            • begins with<\/li>
            • ends with<\/li>
            • equal to<\/li><\/ul><\/li>
            • Next to this dropdown, enter the email address you wish the rule to apply to.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Perform the following actions:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
              • Where you see Perform the following actions<\/em>, select Reply to Message<\/strong><\/em> from the drop-down menu.<\/li>
              • A new item, Reply Message Text<\/strong><\/em>, will show up. Tap this, then create your auto-respond message. Click OK<\/strong><\/em> when you\u2019re done.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                Turn On Your Autoresponder<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                • Open Mail > Preferences > Rules<\/em> and check the box next to your newly-created autoresponder message to activate it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                  Turn Off Your Autoresponse<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                  • Select Mail > Preferences<\/em>.<\/li>
                  • Go to the Rules<\/em> category.<\/li>
                  • Make sure the rule corresponding to the autoresponse you want to disable is NOT<\/strong> checked in the Active column.<\/li>
                  • Close the Rules<\/em> preferences window.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                    Delete Your Autoreply<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                    • To delete any rules, go to Mail > Preferences > Rules<\/em><\/li>
                    • Select the autoreply or other rule you’d like to delete and click \u201cRemove.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
