With the Music app on your Mac, you can sync your library to save your tunes, but you should also do a dedicated backup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To sync your music library:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
  1. Launch the app<\/li>
  2. Select Preferences<\/strong> at the top left side of your screen<\/li>
  3. Select Sync Library<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Syncing your music allows it to be accessible from all your devices<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    This will show all the music you\u2019ve added, bought, and uploaded. The music on the Mac you\u2019re using will appear on your other Apple devices (and PCs) after syncing with iCloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I would also suggest selecting the Automatic Downloads<\/strong> option so that when you add music to your library, it will automatically be downloaded to your Mac (as opposed to simply being stored in the \u201ccloud\u201d) so you can play it when you\u2019re offline. Of course, make sure you\u2019ve got plenty of room on your Mac\u2019s hard drive to store all your tunes. Otherwise, move your Music library to an external drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now let\u2019s back up your music…<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Here\u2019s how:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Launch the Music app<\/li>
    2. Find the Artist, Albums, or Songs you want to download<\/li>
    3. Click the …<\/strong> button to bring up a pop-up menu<\/li>
    4. Select Download<\/strong> to initiate the download.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Okay, so now we\u2019ve got your tunes stored in iCloud and on your Mac. But let\u2019s make sure we\u2019re safe by having a third \u201chard\u201d copy saved. If you\u2019re using Apple’s Time Machine backup system and an external drive<\/a> (and if you\u2019re not, you should), your Music library and other important data should be backed up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      You can also back up your files to an external drive. First, consolidate your Music folder files. Why? Depending on how you imported items into Music, some items in your library might be stored in different locations (for example, in another folder or on another storage device).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      You can consolidate all the files in your library in the Music folder\u2014for example, to make it easier to move your library to a new computer or back it up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Consolidate Music Files<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      1. Launch Music<\/li>
      2. Choose File > Library > Organize Library<\/strong><\/li>
      3. Select Consolidate files<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Consolidating your music files makes them easier to back up or move<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n


        Files remain in their original locations, and copies are placed in the default folder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Now you can locate your Music folder on your Mac\u2019s hard drive and drag and drop it to an external hard drive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Voila! Now you\u2019ve got multiple copies of all your music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        These instructions apply, for the most part, to other versions of macOS besides Catalina. However, I\u2019m using Catalina on a 16-inch MacBook Pro for this tutorial.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
