A keychain is a locked, encrypted container used in Keychain Access to store account names and passwords. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Keychain Access app is found in the Utilities folder that\u2019s inside the Applications folder on your hard drive \u2013 which is probably dubbed \u201cMacintosh HD\u201d unless you\u2019ve renamed it. If you\u2019re using <strong>Launchpad<\/strong>, the Keychain Access app is found with the other apps lumped together as \u201cOther.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-view-keychain-info\">View Keychain Info<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Launch <strong>Keychain Access<\/strong> and you\u2019ll see a list of your keychains. For example, if you click\u201cAsk for Keychain password\u201d for an item, you have to type the keychain password as well as the item\u2019s password to gain access to that item.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the item is a certificate, the <strong>Trust<\/strong> section displays details about the certificate\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/guide\/keychain-access\/aside\/glos27cbb09c\/11.0\/mac\/11.0\">trust policy<\/a>. Certificates are used by web browsers, mail, and texting apps. In macOS, certificates are part of your digital identity and are stored in your keychain.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A trust policy determines whether a certificate is valid for the designated use. A certificate may be valid for some uses but not for others.
