The Calendar app in macOS High Sierra (and later) is automatically backed up if you have an iCloud account and enable this option. However, I like to keep another backup of my calendars and urge you to do the same.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Backing Up<\/strong> Calendars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can back up Apple Calendar<\/a> data\u2014including events, notifications, and subscribed calendars\u2014and transfer it as a single file to a separate macOS or iOS device. Here\u2019s how:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Launch Calendar<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>
  2. From the Calendar sidebar, choose the calendar you want to back up.<\/li>
  3. From the menus, select “File > Export.”<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    1. Use the Save<\/strong> dialog box to browse to a location on your Mac to store the backup.<\/li>
    2. Click the Export<\/strong> button.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The selected calendar will be saved in iCal (.ics) <\/strong>format. Repeat the process for any other calendars you wish to back up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Restoring Calendar Data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      To restore Calendar data on your Mac:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Open Calendar.<\/li>
      2. Go to “File > Import.” <\/li>
      3. Select the archive file.<\/li>
      4. Choose “Import > Restore.”<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        To restore your Calendar with iCloud:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        1. Log in to iCloud<\/strong>.<\/li>
        2. From the drop-down menu, select “Account Settings > Advanced > Restore Calendars.”<\/li>
        3. Select the file and Restore<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          To access a Calendar archive file on another Mac, iPad, or iPhone, you’ll have to transfer the file from the original device to the new one using a flash drive, cloud storage service (such as iCloud), or email message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          1. Launch Calendar and select “File\u00a0> Import.”<\/li>
          2. Find the archived file, and choose Import<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            You\u2019ll be asked if you really want to import the backup file, which replaces the existing Calendar data. Select Restore<\/strong> to confirm or Cancel<\/strong> to quit the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Your new Mac or iOS device will now contain the same Calendar data as your original.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
