Did you know you can hide icons in macOS system preferences<\/a>? You can and it\u2019s easy by using System Preferences.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hiding icons<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Launch System Preferences by clicking the System Preferences icon in the Dock or choose Apple menu > System Preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the View menu bar option, choose Customize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll now see every preference pane with a checkmark by it. Uncheck any panes whose icon you don\u2019t wish to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click Done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unchecked preference panes are deleted. Their icons simply don\u2019t appear anymore. But they\u2019re as useable as ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And you can\u2019t make all icons disappear. For example, in macOS Catalina and later, the Apple ID and Family Sharing icons can\u2019t be hidden. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reorganizing preference panes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can also reorganize preference panes by putting them in alphabetical order or organizing them by category. (They\u2019re organized by category in the default setting.) To do this, choose View > Organize by Categories or Organize Alphabetically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the way, if you see a red badge on the System Preferences icon in the Dock, it requires your attention. For example, if you didn\u2019t fully set up iCloud, the badge appears on the icon in the Dock; when you click the icon, the preferences are displayed so you can complete setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
