Whether you do screenshots often or irregularly, there are some gems in here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1170\" height=\"659\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IWGbO-5LvnE?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Different types of screenshots<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some of the common ways to take a screenshot on a Mac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Want a screenshot of the entire screen? <strong>Command + Shift + 3.<\/strong><\/li><li>Want to make a selection? <strong>Command + Shift + 4<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You&#8217;ll notice a temporary thumbnail that will display in the corner of the screen. This is where things get interesting. After those three? There are two choices for screen recordings for the whole screen or<em> <\/em>a selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep your eyes on the button on the far right. If the button on the right is <strong>Capture<\/strong><em>,<\/em> it&#8217;s a screenshot. If it says <strong>Record<\/strong>, it&#8217;s a screen recording. And the<strong> Enter key <\/strong>will perform it (faster than a mouse click!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Options menu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The real hidden tip is the <strong>Options<\/strong> menu. It has three sections. The top is <em>where<\/em> the screenshot will go, the middle is for a timer, and the bottom section is for preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s the top section that&#8217;s my favorite. It lets me choose where I want the screenshot. These are the options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Desktop<\/strong>: Not great, unless it means you can find it quickly; this causes clutter<\/li><li><strong>Documents<\/strong>: Now at least the clutter is hidden.<\/li><li><strong>Choose Location:<\/strong> This is my choice. I have a folder called &#8220;<em>_Screenshots<\/em>&#8221; on my desktop. Whenever I take a screenshot, it gets saved there, sortable by date. I have them going back for over a year.  A quick library.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything else in that list is about supercharging your workflow.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first is <strong>Clipboard<\/strong>. When it&#8217;s chosen, your screenshot goes <em>immediately into the clipboard<\/em>, allowing you to paste it into your application of choice. It\u2019s great when I&#8217;m writing copy. I use this all the time with PowerPoint and Keynote.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes I send a bunch of screenshots in <strong>Messages<\/strong> or <strong>Mail<\/strong>. Now, every screenshot ends up automatically in that app. No copy\/pasting is needed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Annotating screenshots<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often, I need to add some information\/annotation to the screenshot. Instead of creating the screenshot and opening it in Preview, I can choose<strong> Preview <\/strong>from the Options palette. Now it\u2019s one step, not two, The screenshot automatically opens the Preview App for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try <strong>Command-Shift-5<\/strong> today and work smarter with your screenshots!
