They move at a frightening speed\u2014a lightning pace that doesn\u2019t seem plausible. Their secret? Hotkeys. Any editor worth their salt knows a plethora of Premiere Pro keyboard shortcuts like the back of their hand. They can do it blindfolded. Once you start to master the hotkeys and utilize them in your editing, you\u2019ll find the process moves a whole lot faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we\u2019re taking a look at 10 essential hotkeys in Premiere Pro that are going to make you a more slick, efficient editor.\u00a0<br \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class='youtube-player' width='1170' height='659' src='https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SKal9owHQXA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent' allowfullscreen='true' style='border:0;' sandbox='allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation'><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-ripple-delete-assign-the-letter-t\"><strong>1) Ripple delete (assign the letter T)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First off, ripple delete. What you\u2019ll want to do here is head to <strong>edit &gt; keyboard shortcuts<\/strong>, and then assign the letter <strong>T<\/strong> to ripple delete. I choose to assign the letter T simply because it\u2019s one of the keys I never use otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ripple delete means that whenever you have a clip selected, you can get rid of it simply by hitting <strong>T<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-in-and-out-i-o\"><strong>2) In and Out (I &amp; O)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another way to ripple delete multiple clips is to use the in and out keys. So, press <strong>I<\/strong> at the start of the clips you want to delete (the in point), then <strong>O<\/strong> at the end of the sequence of clips you want to delete (the end point). I can then hit T (ripple delete) and they\u2019re gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-ripple-trim-q-w\"><strong>3) Ripple trim (Q &amp; W)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ripple trim enables you to delete part of a clip before or after the playhead position. So, if I wanted to delete the clip before the playhead position on the left, I hit <strong>Q<\/strong>. If I wanted to delete the rest of this clip after the playhead on the right, I hit <strong>W<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-add-cut-cmd-k-for-mac-ctrl-k-for-windows\"><strong>4) Add cut (CMD + K for MAC, CTRL + K for Windows)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to make a cut in your footage, rather than having to select the razor tool and then click, you can simply hit <strong>CMD + K<\/strong> on <strong>MACs<\/strong>, or <strong>CTRL + K<\/strong> on <strong>Windows<\/strong> and it\u2019ll make a cut at the playhead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-5-select-clip-at-playhead-d\"><strong>5) Select clip at playhead (D)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to select a clip, when the playhead is passing over it, simply press <strong>D<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6-nudge-up-or-down-option-arrow-keys-on-mac-alt-arrow-keys-on-windows\"><strong>6) Nudge up or down (Option + arrow keys on MAC, ALT + arrow keys on Windows)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to move your footage or audio up and down the tracks on your timeline, you can do this by holding <strong>Option<\/strong> on <strong>MAC<\/strong> or <strong>ALT<\/strong> on <strong>Windows<\/strong> and then use the <strong>arrow keys<\/strong> to move the selected clip or track <strong>up and down<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-7-duplicate-clips-opt-drag-on-mac-alt-drag-on-windows\"><strong>7) Duplicate clips (OPT + drag on MAC, Alt + drag on Windows)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Duplicating clips is super easy &#8211; simply hold <strong>Option<\/strong> on <strong>MAC<\/strong> or <strong>ALT<\/strong> on <strong>Windows<\/strong> and then <strong>drag the clip with your cursor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-8-zoom-in-and-out-and\"><strong>8) Zoom in and out (+ and -)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll find yourself zooming in and out of your timeline A LOT throughout a project. The easiest way to do this is <strong>+<\/strong> <strong>for zooming in<\/strong> and <strong>&#8211; for zooming out<\/strong>. As a bonus, if you hit the backslash key <strong>\\<\/strong>, it automatically fits the whole sequence to the timeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-9-fullscreen-the-tilde-key\"><strong>9) Fullscreen (the tilde key `)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to fullscreen a panel such as your timeline, or the program monitor, all you need to do is hit the tilde key (it\u2019s this symbol <strong>`<\/strong> in the top-hand corner of your keyboard). To pull back out, it\u2019s the same again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-10-save-cmd-s-on-mac-ctrl-s-on-windows\"><strong>10) Save! (CMD + S on MAC, CTRL + S on Windows)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You might think this is silly, but trust me, it\u2019s a life saver. Don\u2019t forget to save your work regularly. I find myself doing it every other minute, just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply hit <strong>CMD + S<\/strong> on a <strong>MAC<\/strong> or <strong>CTRL + S<\/strong> on a <strong>Windows<\/strong>.
