In macOS, there\u2019s a default printer. It\u2019s the one selected when the Print dialog opens. However, it\u2019s easy to change the default printer \u2014 or change a printer\u2019s name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To change your default printer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00b0 Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b0 Click Printers & Scanners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b0 Click the \u201cDefault printer\u201d pop-up menu, then choose an option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Printer Used<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

If you want the same printer to always be your default printer, choose that printer. Conveniently, the default printer you designate doesn\u2019t change even after you print to a different printer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conversely, you can have the default printer be the one you printed to last. If so, choose Last Printer Used. Your Mac \u201cremembers\u201d the printer you previously used at your current network location. For example, the printer you used last might change depending on whether you\u2019re at home or at work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To quickly select a default printer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00b0 Control-click a printer in the Printers list of the Printers & Scanners pane<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b0 Choose \u201cSet default printer\u201d from the shortcut menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
