Following the announcement of its new Series 9 lineup of Apple Watches, Apple introduced the new Ultra 2 model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the same, new S9 SiP chip inside as those new Series 9 watches, the Ultra 2 gets every new feature of those Series 9 watches\u2014including the awesome new Double Tap gesture and on-device Siri\u2014that we covered in a separate article<\/a>. But because this is the Ultra model we’re talking about, there are some extras to discuss. Specifically, a new display and functionality aimed at cyclists and divers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Display that goes all the way to 3,000<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple Watch Ultra 2 gets an all-new display that Apple says is the brightest display it has ever engineered. Like, ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ultra 2’s 49mm display can achieve a brightness of up to 3,000 nits. That’s a 50-percent increase over the first generation Apple Watch Ultra, making the Ultra 2 much easier to read in harsh sunlight. Plus, this peak brightness increase makes the flashlight feature on Ultra 2 even brighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And like the Series 9 display, the screen can also dim down to just 1 nit for easier readability and less disturbance to others in dark rooms or at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New watch face<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple is also launching a new watch face called Modular Ultra. Apple says the new face uses the outermost edge of Apple Watch ULtra’s larger display to show present real-time data including seconds, altitude, or depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Depth app update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple Watch Ultra’s built-in Depth app for divers is also getting a new feature. The app now saves a log of each diving session so you can review your most recent sessions on Apple Watch Ultra. You’ll be able to view the complete history of all dives with a GPS entry point in the Fitness app on iPhone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third-party cycling accessories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Apple also announced that thanks to watchOS 10 Apple Watch Ultra will also be capable of connecting to bluetooth cycling accessories for the first time. This allows Ultra 2 to provide more accurate readings through dedicated power meters, speed sensors, and cadence sensors for cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New bands<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of Apple’s goal of reaching company-wide carbon neutrality by 2023, the company has released new Trail Loop and Alpine Loop bands. These bands contain more than 30 percent recycled content and are available in new colors. Alpine Look will be available in blue, indigo, and olive, while Trail Loop will be available in orange\/ beige, green\/gray, and blue\/black.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
