Rating: 5/5 Top notch Mac Pro 5,1 with nice speed April 25, 2023 Before this, I had a bought cheap-o Mac Pro 2010 with 2.66 ghz (not from Mac Sales OWC). It was slow as molasses compared to my previous 5,1 twelve core with 3.33. So I spent just a bit more on OWC's of these baby, and it's a speed demon. I previously had 128 GB of Ram, which I put into this, giving me something as powerful as Monster Truck. As far as I'm concerned a real computer allows users to customize, and add what you need, bit by bit. Except for the current new Apple Mac Pro, all the other Apple machines have soldered parts, and if you can't afford the what you want in Ram and internal workings, you can't add bit by bit. To create as powerful a new Mac Pro as I have for this, it would run me around $15,000 to $20,000. I'm extremely happy with this. If a rich benefactor wants to buy me a $20,000 machine, I'll jump on it, but I figure that maybe in another five years, I might be able to grab one a lot more reasonably priced.

The people that I dealt with were very patient and courteous with my problems with the computer that I eventually returned for the present one. I bought this computer to be the platform for my main Pro Tools system, an HD3 Accel system. I subsequently did a CPU upgrade to bring it to a 6 Core 3.6 GHZ machine with 32 Gig RAM. While my system is technically a legacy system, with this CPU it's a BEAST! The additional cores and speed give it the juice to run very resource-hungry plug-in modules with hardly a hiccup. By going for used and legacy components I was able to assemble a very powerful system for thousands less than a comparable new system would have cost. I am very happy with my system and this approach to assembling it. The key was this gnarly CPU from OWC!

Rating: 5/5 Great machine November 13, 2017 I was fearful of getting another refurb to replace the refurb iMac I got from Apple 5 years back but those fears were allied when I got this new 5,1 cheesegrater. Booted right up and is fairly quiet - can hear the fans when the room is quiet but even then they're not all that loud. My cat meows louder than those fans!

It came with Sierra on it and was easy to backdate to Yosemite 10.10.5 because all the audio software I use isn't ready for Sierra.

I really love how I can update things in this machine h/w wise unlike my old iMac. Have several upgrades in the planning like replacing the system drive with an ssd and adding other drives inside.

There are a couple of small scrapes and a small divot in the case but nothing I can't live with. Overall for a machine that has been around since at least 2012 and seen use I can't complain about the quality. When OWC gives an estimate/description of the quality you can trust them on that.
