Updated for 2015, the OWC Hard Drive Tray is the new universal standard to install any SATA hard drive in a Mac Pro tower, including the latest SATA hard drives which feature the new industry-standard mounting screw pattern. With screw mounting holes for all SATA drives, it's the drive sled built for compatibility, flexibility, and ease of use. .

Rating: 5/5 Does the job February 22, 2022 Not sure why the screws aren't in the farthest holes by default, if you don't have to move the screws than you don't need this product. In any case, does the job and blends in the machine just fine. Adding 16TB drives is no longer an issue in my 2012.

Rating: 5/5 Does what it says November 8, 2021 This is the drive sled replacement you need to install a large capacity drive into a Mac Pro 2009 (or 2010-2012). The new drives have a different screw arrangement and so the drive sleds that came with the Mac Pro cannot be used to install these new high capacity drives.

Rating: 3/5 An expensive necessity September 22, 2021 As customary, OWC's service was impeccable: as I plan on fitting two high capacity (>10 TB) hard disk drives that use an unusual screws position scheme, I consulted them too about a Mac Pro DVD bay HD adapter kit's fitness for this same purpose (I had purchased one from them years ago) and their response was prompt and helpful. Packaging was nice and the product is good. It's simply too expensive for what it is, though, but they seem to be the only ones producing it and arguably it's a very low volume one, so…

Rating: 5/5 What you need to properly mount newer large capacity drives in a 2009-2012 Mac Pro June 7, 2021 These drive sleds work perfectly for mounting large drives (16TB in my case) into an older (2009-2012) Mac Pro unit. The old beast still runs great and this allowed me to expand the internal storage for my video work. And they have the spots for screws in either the original or newer spread format.

The price is high for an inert piece of metal that is stamped once and has no moving parts or wear. I understand that it is expensive to create the tooling dies for working metal, but it's $100 to refit a MacPro (old tower) which is high when the machines are so old. But I paid it and was grateful for it, since I haven't seen any alternatives whatsoever. Hooray monopoly power! But the parts slide in place and stay there, so there's that...

This is the bracket you need for your 2009-12 MacPro to use these drives. OWC seems to be the only seller of these, and they are high quality.

Rating: 4/5 Prefect for any 3.5" HDD September 7, 2017 This is the prefect drive sled for installing large capacity 3.5" HDD. Most of them come with "non standard" mounting points now. Which means can't be installed properly without this sled.

For 6TB or below, it's possible to get a standard mount point HDD. But for 8TB or above, I haven't seen one so far. So, this sled is crucial if you want to max out your cMP's storage capacity.

Anyway, it's just a metal sled with the correct mount point. Build with very good quality, Nothing can really go too wrong.

I only give it 4 starts because for this kind of zero technology product, I expect the price can go a little bit lower.

One thing to keep in mind – do not overtighten the hard drive screws on the bottom. The rubber grommets around the screws help to reduce vibration and you can damage them if you tighten the screws too much.

Rating: 5/5 OWC to the rescue... July 28, 2016 Do you know what's harder to find than a penguin-flamingo hybrid? A freaking drive bracket for a Mac Pro. They all shipped with four, but when you buy a used Mac Pro, seems like half the time it's missing one or more of the drive brackets. Where did they go? There is no other use for them than putting them into Mac Pro, so where do they vanish to? Are they like those socks that vanish into an alternate dimension leaving you with one striped and one checkered sock on the morning you have an important meeting?

This OWC drive bracket is better than the original. It has an extra set of mounting points, to fit more modern drives where manufacturers decided to 'shake things up' by moving the screw holes.

You can't go wrong with this mount, as long as you actually have a 2009-2012 aluminum tower Mac Pro. If you have a 2008 or older, OWC has a bracket for you; it just isn't this one.

There has been a change. The screw hole configuration on the newer drives is different. The Mac Pro came with sufficient drive sleds, but the sleds only accommodated the older mounting screw configuration. Enter OWC. A solution that is simple and not overly expensive.
