  • Mercury AccelsiorM PCIe card
  • Two mSATA drive mounting screws (drive not included)
Note about compatibility and throughput:
  • Compatibility:
    • Fully compatible with Mac Pros and PCs offering an available PCIe 2.0 x1 slot or better.
  • For full throughput on PCs:
    • PCIe 2.0 x1 slot or better is required. Use of a PCIe 1.0 x1 slot will reduce performance.
  • For full throughput on Mac Pros:
    • 2010 & 2009: Use either x4 or x16 as all will provide full throughput.
    • 2008: Use x16 slot for full throughput. Use of the PCIe 1.0 x1 slot will reduce performance.
    • 2007 & 2006: All slots are compatible, but are PCIe 1.0 slots and will deliver reduced performance.

Release Candidate (RC) firmware set

There are two kinds of firmware for SSDs Mass Production (MP) and Release Candidate (RC). Prior to an MP firmware release, there are beta firmware releases and an RC firmware release. Often, the RC is the same as the MP release, however there can be small changes and bug fixes made between the two. OWC has evaluated the RC for the 6Gb/s SandForce 2281 Processor and found it to be stable with no issues reported during our testing. However, as with any evolutionary product, issues may surface as different usages and configurations are employed and it is important to understand that there will be further updates and revisions.

Since no firmware update is currently offered for the OWC Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G SSD, no update page exists. To see the typical steps involved with a self performed field firmware update, please visit our 3Gb/s product update page at: http://eshop.macsales.com/Customized_Pages/Framework.cfm?page=sf_firmware.html

It is important to note that the current firmware update tool requires the use of Windows XP/Vista/7. OWC is currently working on a Mac OS based update tool, but we do not have an exact availability date.

Rating: 5/5 Plug and play June 15, 2017 I recently tried to do a SSD m.2 pci-e update for my old Mac Pro 5.1. I couldn't get it to work. Now I tried this mSATA controller solution. It worked perfectly without any issue. It may not be as fast as the m.2, but it works well.

Rating: 5/5 Mercury AccelsiorM mSATA PCIe Controller May 16, 2017 Works exactly as advertised. Truly plug and play! Instantly recognized my 250GB mSATA drive right away upon first boot. Using in a PC at the moment, hoping to move it to a Mac Pro soon. Appears to perform at the advertised read/write speeds as well. Very happy with my purchase!

Rating: 5/5 Excellent piece of kit September 2, 2016 I bought two of these cards to put two hand-me-down M-Sata drives (256gb and 128gb) into my 1,1 Mac Pro. The speed up over the 7200 rpm WD drive was immediately evident as start up went from thirty seconds to about ten seconds. Having a suite of Adobe aps as well as Toast Titanium 14, I was rewarded with fast loan and render times. I went from about thirty minutes to compress and burn a dvd to about fourteen minutes.

The drives mounted easily with the included screws securing the drives. The cards were easy to add, being reliable PCIe cards. I can think of no negatives with these cards, save for my own inability to initially clone the original host drive onto the card and have it recognized as the new start up drive. I used a trial of SuperDuper to clone the drive, then used the option command upon hearing the start up chime to select the new drive.
