A specified tool was a T8 Torx wrench, which did not appear to be in the kit. However, a standard T8 driver would NOT WORK! What would work, however, was the little L-shaped tool (T8 Torx) did the job. The small plastic bag contained the tool. A standard T8 Torx driver did not fit the screw head on the Mac. Once we figured that out, the Mac submitted to disassembly.

Trust me, the SSD is a SCREAMER (fast, fast, fast).

From Apple, the maximum capacity hard drive that I could upgrade to was 1 TB for ~$1,000 at the time. After taxes, etc. I ended up paying $1,379.99. Not bad getting an extra 1 TB for $379.99!! It took minutes to install and it was extremely easy (coming from somebody who has never taken a computer apart - the only thing I had previously done was upgrade the RAM on a couple of computers). I also ended up upgrading the RAM on my Mac Pro to 64 GB and next I am planning to upgrade the processor at some point; then I will have a real power house on my hands!!!

I held off from buying this for a year or so waiting for the price to drop, but, as my Apple OEM was running out of space, I finally gave in and bought the MacSales.com drive upgrade. I have nothing but good things to say about the drive itself. It took me less than five minutes to install the drive, and the back-up restore process with the portable USB kit for the old drive was very simple. I would give this product five stars except that it is just so expensive compared to PC based solid-state drives. (As an aside, if you have Office, Word, etc., be sure to locate you Microsoft Activation Key. While all of my other software transferred over seamlessly, my Office Suite, while it transferred over, can't be activated because I can't locate my Activation Key from 2013. This seems absurd given that all of the other software transferred over to the new drive without a hitch.)

Rating: 5/5 Prolong the Life Span of your late 2013 MacPro July 4, 2016 I have been waiting for Apple to upgrade the late 2013 MacPro. Because it has not been forthcoming, and AppleCare is expiring later this year, I thought long and hard about updating the SSD internal storage on my MacPro. I purchased the 4.0TB OWC Aura SSD for Mac Pro after viewing the installation video and determining that "I can do that." I also ordered the External Drive Housing, the Envoy Pro, in which to place my original Apple 1 TB SSD which contained all of my Data.

OWC recommends you perform the upgrade on a static-free mat which they do not provide, nor do they offer one for sale. I ordered it off Amazon. OWC should offer one.

The OWC Aura SSD arrived as did the external Envoy Pro housing. Do not expect overnight delivery. It actually took three weeks for my order to arrive. Why? Anyway, it did come with the appropriate tools to complete the installation.

Following the Installation Videos, I successfully removed and replaced my original Apple SSD with the OWC 4TB SSD without difficulty. The original Apple SSD went into the Envoy Pro housing kit. After placing everything back together, I booted up and transferred my entire computer installation from the original Apple SSD (in the Envoy Pro housing) to the newly installed OWC 4 TB SSD. OWC provides excellent instructions to accomplish this.

During this data transfer process, however, I did call OWC Tech Support. Tech Support was promptly available, and quickly helped me complete my installation. I find the 4.0TB OWC Aura SSD for Mac Pro to be faster than the original Apple 1 TB SSD. It has been trouble-free for the past month.

I use the original apple 1 TB SSD in its Envoy Pro USB 3.0 housing with my MacBook Pro as a fast external storage solution.

If I can do this, so can you. I highly recommend the 4.0TB OWC Aura SSD for Mac Pro.

Only one thing I noticed is that the copper heat sinks touch the cover case when I put it back on. I think the blue insulation blocks may have something to do with that. I cheaper out on the purchase of the Mac Pro and bought it with a 256gb flash drive. Turns out the user needed way more than that! The Aura has solved our problems and has been working great. Rating: 5/5 4TB within the MacPro - runnin' even faster than before February 7, 2016 Installation: the installation guide is comprehensible - don't rely only on the photos of the 2 TB SSD: the additional mains connection of the 4TB SSD is now coded by the color of the wrappers of the eyelets, not the cable itself. - The procedure: removal of the stock ssd, plug in of the 4TB TB, transplantation of the stock ssd into the tiny new enclosure - took less than 15 minutes: this says all. The booting from newly formed usb-ssd took a little bit longer and the carbon copy cloning also takes some time but after that and booting from the built-in 4TB SSD everything Run: smooth - and even faster than before!

The package from OWC included all necessary tools and accessory parts. On line video very well done and easy to follow. Exchange accomplished with minimal effort. I ordered the package with the external drive for the removed Apple SSD; was reassuring to have available to start the MacPro and transfer to new SSD.

Rating: 5/5 Aura SSD January 18, 2016 promoted as an easy install and it was, even someone with no computer experience could install one of these. Being able to access my old hard drive in the included inclosure, made it very easy to clone the old drive and be quickly up and running.
