Rating: 5/5 Five years old and still humming... August 7, 2016 This is the proper time for a review of a disk device: five years after it’s been ordered and two years out of warranty.

This Elite Pro has been backing up systems all this time, year after year. It has always spun up and worked perfectly. I only “retired” it as I have moved to a MacPro and the backup disks are now internal. I suppose I could crack it open (an easy task) and add a 4 - 6 GB disk and use it for really big files (the e-SATA port would allow for quick transfer), but I’ll probably end up using it as an extra offsite backup for a safe deposit box.

But I believe transfer rate a bit slower using Superduper! for some reason. I don't believe it's the drive that's the problem. Smart Backup with 360gb on my 1TB drive takes only 10 minutes, so I'm not too concerned about it. The ordering/shipping process was backed up with informative emails providing status and tracking information without having to request anything. Just as customer service should be. I ordered on a Monday night, received drive on Saturday with free shipping.

Rating: 5/5 2 TB External Drive February 24, 2012 After installing the new ram in my IMAC 24" I plugged in the firewire 800 cord to the new drive and it fired right up. There was really nothing else to do, it was running right away. I used my firewire 800/400 to connect the new drive to my 750 Mercury Elite and it also fired up right away. So far the new drive is running well and used for system back up and external storage. It came with a nice selection of cables as well so no added purchase was needed.

When I started to run out of room on my trusty OWC Neptune drive, I decided to try one of our aluminum enclosures. I opted for the 1TB for back up and to store a growing movie library. I purchased this in Sept. of 2009, and leave it on 24/7. I use CCC to make weekly back-ups of my iMac. Silent, cool running. It just works!
