Seagate

3.0TB Desktop HDD Hard Disk Drive

3.5-Inch | SATA 6.0Gb/s | 7200RPM | 64MB Cache
One hard drive for all your desktop applications
Proven quality and performance
The Seagate® Desktop HDD (formerly Barracuda®) is the one drive for every need, supported by 30 years of trusted performance, reliability and simplicity.
Maximizes hard drive storage densities
Seagate Desktop HDD, 1TB-per-disk technology incorporates 340,000 unique tracks in the width of a single inch. This incredible storage density drives new capacity possibilities and lowers your total storage costs.

Seagate AcuTrac™ technology enables storage densities with accurate reading and writing to nano-sized tracks that are only 75 nanometers wide! That's about 1/500th the size of the period at the end of this sentence.
The Eco-Friendly Choice
Seagate hard drives have long been produced with the environment in mind, and not just with low power consumption. You can have the best of both worlds: top hard-drive performance and the satisfaction of knowing you're using a high-capacity drive with a very small eco-footprint.

Rating: 2/5 No Warning! December 2, 2013 Bought this Seagate 3 TB hdd in April 2012 for my iMac. It worked flawlessly until yesterday, when it fried! No warning, no prior indication of faults or impending failure. After removing it from the computer and checking with the Newer Technology USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adepter on 2 different computers, it was found to be completely DEAD. I am assuming from board failure since it wouls spin-up but not register on the disk utility. I have about 2.3 TB of info on the 3TB drive. It would have been a total catastrophe if I didn't have a FULL BACK-UP on an external back-up drive. I am very disappointed. But to be fair, this is the 1st Seagate drive that has failed me. I will be replacing it with the 3TB Toshiba hdd. Toshiba has a very long and consist history of HDD production. So I'm hoping for the best.

Rating: 5/5 So Far So Good October 12, 2012 It went into the system like a dream in 5 minutes or less. It formatted and all for the partitions and everything quickly. We loaded the os on to it and now we have another drive with another newest Mac OS X operating system on it. We can switch either using the startup method or using the system preferences methods to change drives and start up os's.

So Far So Good. Only real problem if any is that we have had the drives for a few months at most. It takes years to see if a drive is all it was cracked up to be. But! So Far So Good / Excellent smile.

Rating: 5/5 Smooth and Silent August 18, 2012 I have had this unit for about two months or more for use in a Voyager toaster, and despite this not being in an enclosure, this drive is unbelievably quiet in operation. Its also very quiet in seek and write. It doesn't burn hot despite being left on for about 20 hours to dump 1.5tb its toasty to the touch but not enough for you to feel it burn you. Write speeds are considerably faster then Samsung 2tb drives I got about 2 years ago, and they are woefully noisy. Im not very hardware tech savvy so my opinion on this drive is layman's knowledge. I will be buying another two.

Rating: 5/5 Good Speed and Lots of Room July 30, 2012 Purchased two of these for large storage. Not looking for speed, just size, price and a good warranty. Bought from OWC, better warranty on these than most (2 yrs vs 1 yrs on some same model) Unlike the 4tb drives currently, these are not priced in the stratosphere.

I'd read a couple reviews describing clicks with this drive. I have not experienced this in either drive yet.. Also, 3tb don't have any issues formatting on a Mac, unlike many PC systems which experience problems over 2.2tb.

I was expecting average speeds for this drive, as I already have two of the 1.5tb older Seagate Barracuda drives setup in a Raid 0, I was pleasantly surprised with the speeds for these set up as single drives, not in Raid 0. As expected, Sequential Read and Write is where these shine. But even the Random Reads & Writes were better than older Barracuda drives.

I have run Quickbench 4.0 with one of these drives connected via standard slots SATA II slots Results are listed below.
