Xserve is a designed-from-the-ground-up server-class workhorse
with the core features and capabilities you asked for.
The 1U (1.75-inch) Xserve comes with your choice of single 2.0GHz or dual 2.3GHz G5 processors running at speeds of up to 35 gigaflops, a 1.15GHz frontside bus per processor for up to 9.2GBps throughput each, two full-length 64-bit, PCI-X slots for up to 1GB/s throughput, and up to 8GB of 400MHz RAM with Error Correction Code (ECC). Plus three independent Serial ATA drive bays holding up to 1.2 TB of internal disk space using hot-plug Apple Drive Modules, dual onboard Gigabit Ethernet and the complete suite of robust, standards-based network services in Mac OS X Server. Or choose the compute-optimized cluster node version for your high performance computing needs. With the money you save, you can add more Xserve systems for a more powerful cluster.
