Ampli-Phone™ Performance Testing

This test consisted of 100 averages of white noise measured axially at 1 meter from the horn opening using 2 Bruel and Kjaer 4192 Pressure Field microphones, spaced 30 cm apart in an anechoic chamber. The plot is the average response of both microphones. The white noise source was amplified to 550 mw by a Bruel and Kjaer power amp, and a planar piezo sonar array driver was placed in line with the horn mouth, sealed into position using caulk. Frequency response of the source and driver is 2-50,000 Hz +1 dB.

The Ampli-Phone® provides at least 10 dB broadband gain as compared to an iPhone without the horn. This gain can be significantly increased by placing the Ampli-Phone® in the corner of a room. In addition, the bass response of the system will be enhanced via corner placement.

The overall response characteristics are considerably smoother than an iPhone speaker alone, and low frequency response is extended by a full octave.
