SmartErase

"Quick Erase" only erases the information stored in the Lead-in area and data stored on the first track of the disc. As a result, a drive can not read the disc anymore, but with data recovery software there is a chance that some data can still be recovered from the parts of the disc that have not been overwritten. "Full Erase" overwrites the complete disc. It takes more time then a "Quick Erase", but all the data will be permanently erased.

OWC Notes:

G5 owners replacing a Sony optical drive will need to purchase this additional screw set. The system profiler can tell you if you have a Sony mechanism.
At this time, there is no native support for this drive when using earlier versions of Mac OS X. Patching this drive for support under earlier versions of Mac OS X is possible using Christian Moller's PatchBurn Software.
Requires disabling of hard disk sleep in Mac Pro Systems to prevent drive from disappearing during sleep. To disable hard disk sleep go to the Apple --->System Preferences ---> Energy Saver and uncheck "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible."
