OWC Mercury On-The-Go
Power Adapter

A/C Power Adapter for all OWC Mercury On-The-Go, OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini, OWC Value Line Slim and/or USB Enclosures
This AC Power Adapter is not included standard with the OWC Mercury On-The-Go Kits and Solutions . Both On-The-Go and Express enclosures are designed to be bus powered or powered with this AC Power Adapter. Not all computers provide the proper, specified bus-power. Additionally, some 2.5" hard drives and SSDs require more power than a USB or FireWire bus can support.

If you need the AC Power Adapter or would like an additional adapter for keeping in multiple locations, this is the correct adapter for all OWC Mercury On-the-Go and Express models.

Rating: 3/5 Simple AC adapter January 12, 2016 These are fairly nondescript devices for use in supplying external power source for Mercury mini drives that from my experience improve performance and reliability of drives versus relying in using cables to access computer's power source. The only hangup from previous adapters of the same type I've purchased is that the plug that came with this one doesn't doesn't have a "snug fit" ( doesn't sit properly as connector shank too long, tolerance off ? ) and feels like it could be prone to loosening during operation if drive is hit, or moved which is not a good thing.

Rating: 5/5 Fixed Startup Problems with OWC Enclosure April 28, 2015 I was consistently encountering startup problems with two separate 480GB Mercury Extreme SSD inside OWC Mercury Elite Pro mini FireWire drive enclosures. (The drive was not recognized at startup time and the computer stalled with a grey screen. The SSD firmware was completely up-to-date and OWC support was unable to provide a solution for the issue.) On a whim, I decided to try adding this optional power supply. It solved the startup issue completely on both computers.

Rating: 4/5 sometimes you need it March 26, 2015 It works. What else matters. I would give it a higher rating but I kind of wish it was included with the drive.

Response from MacSales.com, Marketing March 27, 2015 For most instances, the power supply isn't necessary as the On-the-Go itself is bus-powerable. So rather than raise the price on everybody to include an adapter that would most likely end up unused, we keep the price lower and your junk drawer cleaner by making it a separate item.

Rating: 3/5 Works ok January 9, 2015 A bit finicky, but that may be dependent on the drive being used.

Rating: 5/5 Good to have just in case January 5, 2015 Bus power should suffice, but it is nice to have as a power source.

Rating: 5/5 Works fine, but ... November 11, 2014 so far I have not had to use it in practice. Every FireWire or USB port to which I have connected the Mercury On-The-Go portable drive has provided enough power for the drive.

Rating: 5/5 Overseas compatibility - a nice feature. May 19, 2011 I ordered this AC adaptor with a 1.0TB OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro drive, and had it all shipped to Australia. We use a 240V supply in Australia and a different plug type - the transformer is 110-240V compatible but I thought the plug type would be an issue; I expected I would need to modify the flat pins, or use an adaptor to suit our power plugs - but was very pleased to find the US plug can be unlocked and removed from the transformer. This reveals a figure 8 type input socket in the transformer, so I am able to use that type of power lead (which are commonly used with camcorder chargers and other euipment), directly with the transformer. Effectively this makes the transformer a universal type, which can be used in other countries. Most people would probably use this transformer in the USA, but I think being able to remove the US plug is a good / useful design feature for those who are in different countries or who may travel outside the USA.
