The OWC Mercury Pro Optical Drive Solution is Plug and Play easy. The quad interface design allows you record up to 8.5GB of files, photos, or business documents onto a single dual layer DVD disc via eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, or USB 2.0 & 1.1.

SATA interface technology allows for easier integration and ultimately faster performance while LightScribe gives you the added feature of etching customized labels onto a special coated LightScribe disc (sold separately).

OWC Notes:

G5 owners replacing a Sony optical drive will need to purchase this additional screw set. The system profiler can tell you if you have a Sony mechanism.

At this time, there is no native support for this drive when using earlier versions of Mac OS X. Patching this drive for support under earlier versions of Mac OS X is possible using Christian Moller's PatchBurn Software.

Requires disabling of hard disk sleep in Mac Pro Systems to prevent drive from disappearing during sleep. To disable hard disk sleep go to the Apple --->System Preferences ---> Energy Saver and uncheck "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible."
