I have a 1,1 2006 MacPro that I wanted to bring as modern as possible without breaking the bank. I looked at nVME solutions but they cost more than I was willing to spend and the cost to performance benefit would not have been worth it because the data bus in the 1,1 is SATA II speed on the PCIe lanes. This card fit the bill very well. I already had a Samsung 256GB 960 mSATA drive I inherited in a pile of parts I bought. I saw that this card would work well. It is SATA II speed but for what I need to do (run macOS Server, El Capitan), and my NetBoot server. I would recommend this card to anyone looking to boost the performance of an older MacPro to get the most cost per performance benefit. Well done OWC!

I recently tried to do a SSD m.2 pci-e update for my old Mac Pro 5.1. I couldn't get it to work. Now I tried this mSATA controller solution. It worked perfectly without any issue. It may not be as fast as the m.2, but it works well.
