Well, after a fairly easy and successful move up to Jaguar on my S 900 machine #1 and a move to 9.2.2 on S 900 machine #2 I have a problem. I had the traditional file sharing set up via ethernet between the two machines which worked flawlessly. Now I have been going around in circles and reading the Mac OS 9.1 (Black Book), Mac OS X (Jaguar) and Sams Mac OS X (Teach Yourself in 24 Hours) to no avail. I can not figure out how to set up a file sharing network between machine #1 (Jaguar) and #2 OS 9.2.2. I only need to bring #2 up on the desk top of #1 the OS X machine. I have thought about using Timbuktu but I thought that there would be a simple straight forward setup just as in OS 9, was I surprised to find that it just was not there. At the moment all I have been able to get is a drop box from the #1 machine on the desk top of #2 which does me no good. I hope somebody has been successful in setting up this kind of network file sharing and can help me find my way. As I said I have thought of using Timbuktu as I do have it and have set it up in 9.1 before moving up to Jaguar. Any help will be much appreciated. Now I do have one thing to say about the new Apple browser Safari, and that it needs a lot of work! The interface is terrible and the lack of the ability to import your books from various browsers after it has been installed is a nightmare. The preference panel is also a disaster. I also am very upset over the loss of the 15 F-key functions panel as I used it to open various applications as I was working from the keyboard instead of this dock in OSX and no Apple Menu. I hope that as they take the bugs out of Panther they put back some of the great functionality of OS 9x. A couple of years ago I found a small app called Simple Launcher that I used to convert all the F-Keys into a keyboard dream, allowing me to set them up for all of my most used applications. Hope someone has figured out to set up the file sharing between two Macs one on OS X and the other running 9x. Richie |

Make sure you have "Enable File Sharing clients to connect over TCP/IP" selected in the File Sharing control panel of #2. If you can't see the name of #2 on #1 in the "Connect To Server" window, then try typing the IP address of #2 in the Address field of the "Connect To Server" window. On #1, selecting "Make AppleTalk Active" in the Network System Preferences for Buit-in Ethernet may help. |

I think that you need a utilioty called SharePoints it is at http://www.hornware.com/ sharepoints/ Also about the safari problem of bookmark import that are some utilities that make the safari show a hidden menu with wich you have the ability to import them. The Safari Enhancer founf in versiontracker is a nice utility About the F-key program you asked I do not know any utility that does that but it could be developed easy (or even it exists). I hope I helped |
