I am running a PPC 8600 upgraded with a PowerLogix G3 processor and a Rage 128 card. I have 10.2.5 is up and running fine, but I cannot get DVD Player to install, although I have installed DVD Player on the same machine under 9.2.2. Has anyone succeeded in installing DVD Player on a legacy Mac running Mac OS X 10.2? If so, how did you do it? Regards, Frank Bendrick |

The no Cocoa patch will not enable your DVR-105 to work as a superdrive attached to the SIIG. It will probably work with the DVD player but you will need a Sonnet card for iDVD to work with it. I know that from experience. |

I have a supported pioneer dvd-rw 105 which works with iDVD and the DVD player on the slow 33mhz internal ata bus of my G3 beige tower upgraded to OWC G4-500. Added a Siig ATA 133 pci card which boots 10.2.6 fne and when the dvd-rw drive is the master on the second channel system profiler recognizes it as "burning supported" but will not open and run DVD player or iDVD. Will this "french patch" solve this or do I need to pony up for a Sonnet card? |

I think 10.2.6 might address the external super drive issue. But I know I have played DVD's on external FW drives before from 10.1.5 on with various results... But it wasn't a superdrive either. Marty PS If you have multiple video cards in the system you might try removing the extras (ie other then the radeon or rage 128). |

Thanks again. You have been a great help. I downloaded and applied the patch. The DVD Player app launches but I still get an unsupported device or machine configuration message. I checked with EZQuwest tech, from whom I bought the drive, and they told me that the Mac will not recognize an external FireWire SuperDrive unless it has installed an internal SuperDrive. That does not make sense to me, as the FireWire Superdrive works great when running the same machine under OS 9.2. Rebooting into OS 9.2 looks like the option I may have to live with, at least for a while. Once again, thanks for all your help. |

I have it and would be happy to email it to you. It does appear to be harder to find now a days. |

Thanks, again. I went to http://www.macbidouille.com/ but I coul not find the patch. I checked the various sections and concluded that "Forums" was the most likely spot. I went through the Mac OS X, Software, and Hardware forums but came up empty. My high school French was sorely pressed as I attempted to use the search options. You have been of tremendous help. Could you give me some tips on going through or searching macbidouille.com? The biggest obstacle I faced was finding a section that contained downloadable software; I couldn't find one. The Forums seemed devoted to a recitation of problems and experiences. Thanks again. |

Yeah, I did not think of that. Do a search on the Macbidouille for this patch: "DVD Player 3.2 no DVD en Cocoa" If you don't have a Promise chip based ATA card then you will need the patch for the DVD player to work. |

Yes, go to http://www.macbidouille.com/ Hopefully you know french... Anyhow somewhere there is a patch which stop OSX DVD player for looking for the drive and allows it to play DVDs from unsupported drives or a HD. It's a very slick patch which runs under OSX.... Marty |

I did use Pacifist and now have DVD Player installed. I still have a glitch, however. When I insert a DVD movie disk, I get a message that I have an unsupported device. I have a Pioneer DVR-105. I note that Apple is shipping the Pioneer DVR-104 with the new G4s. Toast recognizes the DVR-105 as both a CD and a DVD burner. The 8600 also recognizes the DVR-105 as a audio and data CD player. And in OS 9.2.2, the DVR-105 is reconized for all functions, including playing DVD movies. What device are you using for playing DVD movies? Any thoughts on tricking the DVD Player s/w into thinking it is accessing a DVR-104? |

You could download Pacifist from versiontracker.com or macupdate.com. It will install the package directly from the 10.2 CD and prebind it afterwards. That's what I've been using. |
