Machine: 9600 + Sonnet PCI G4 800 Mhz, 1.5 GB Ram OS 9.2.2 (OS9Helper) destinstion disk for 10.2: machine's stock IBM scsi 4.2 GB one partition, Video card: Stock ATI Xclaim 3D Pro. 1st try. With Sonnet 1.2.6 X install. The utility failed to boot from the install CD. It stopped on a white screen with a circle and a line cutting it (like a London Underground sign, but in dark gray and tilted on it's side at 45º) I read it's a sign for bad HW somewhere (Where??) 2nd try. With XPF 2.2.5 booted from the CD, had to fiddle with it's prefs cause it loaded in SU mode and got a lot of lines telling me extensions were not found and "old world support" was not found, but finally got the X install UI and installation of CD 1 completed. After the reboot I just get a white screen with nothing on it and nothing moves nor mounts. Went back to 9.2.2, looked at the destination drive and contents. It seems OK although I don't exactly know what should or should not be in it, like I said during the single user mode it looked like a lot of things did not get loaded. The total stuff loaded from CD1 is 1.13 GB (Normal ??) BTW,I got the install CD1 restored to another HD. Anything useful I can do with it? TIA |

Sorry to hear you're still having no success "That I TRIED to boot into the target drive (after install fm cd 1 completed) From XPF on 9.2.2 Samr results, eternal white screen". Just in case, did you follow the advice from egonzales21, that you should select the XPF option to reinstall extensions when attempting to get XPF to start the system you installed from CD1? I forgot to mention this in my post. Apologies if you have in fact done this. John |

I have also found that formatting with drive setup (9.1; I don't run 9.2) as opposed to formatting with OSX was needed to instal Jag. Do you still have the installed system from disk 1 on your target? If you do, try to get to XPF with 9.2.2 and reboot from the Jag system you installed. I believe the installers on disk 2 are actually run under Jag booted from your hard drive. (Running PM7500/XPF/333ZIF/256MB/9GB+4GB/USB) |

Same thing has happened to me when installing 10.2. After CD 1 is finished, the installer does a reboot and a screen comes up asking for CD 2. Most of the time for me, the computer just hangs which requires a reboot back into my System 9 partition. All I do then is just use XPF to reinstall the extensions and reboot from the hard drive that you just intalled 10.2 to. The 2 or 3 times I have done this with CD 1 still in the tray, the request for CD 2 has always come back up. |

I formatted with with DSU from 9.2.2 Any particular reason for using the one from 9.1? The Sonnet, well, it's a G4 upgrade for PCI Macs Runs 9.2.2 quite nicely although I now need a faster Video card. the Sonnet is too fast for what I have |

1.13G sounds about right for a default install including all non-english fonts. How did you format the target drive? I recommend formatting with drive setup from macos 9.1... The sonnet thing is a ? to me. Sorry I don't have any other brilliant thoughts... Marty |
