PC card slots don't work if loaded at startup |

Perhaps this is more of a bug report than a request for help, but it seems that if both of my PC Card slots on my 2400/G3 are loaded at startup, neither one is seen by X. Further, if one or both of the cards are manually ejected, the slots are still dead until the system is rebooted. If only one slot is loaded at startup, it works fine, and then the other can be loaded after startup and that's ok too. I am only sure of this behavior with Cardbus (32-bit) cards; I haven't tried combinations of 16-bit cards to see if the behavior is any different (I can do so if you'd like, Ryan). Based on limited testing, I think it's the same behavior whether or not Cardbus cards are used. If anyone has a Wall/Main Street, it would be very interesting to know if you get the same behavior with a vanilla X installation. This is a particular problem for the 2400 since network connectivity is dependent on a slot, so with my retroserver (as I like to call it) any remote reboot takes me offline. (There is a potential one-slot workaround where everything revolves around a USB 2.0 card or a combo USB/FireWire card, but it would of course just be nice to have both slots working and use the hardware I already have.) Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. Ivan. |

I have a G3 Kanga that I intend to get OSX working on (as soon as I get more memory in it). At present it has 96megs and will install and run X.1.5, but needs more memory to install X.2. PC-Card support isn't hi on my list but I'm still trying to figure out whether it has PCMCIA or CardBus in it (I get different answers depending on who's answering the question) . My main hope is that the main stuff will work, including the internal modem, etc. While PC-Card support would be nice, better Powerbook sleep support and better PRAM support (a general item) is way more useful to me. Then again, last time I read his log, it was clear that Ryan's 3400 was inop for testing. Oh well, another fine mess I gotten myself into . |

Thanks, Ivan. I need to do some more work on this to see if I can figure out what the problem is. |
